Our Story

It started, as these things often do, with a few voice notes, a long-overdue glass of wine, a big vision and a bootstrapped budget.

That's how HMNKND HR was born.

We're Kathryn Bonning and Dayna White, two HR consultants with decades of experience helping organisations navigate workforce challenges, organisational change, employee relations and workplace culture transformation.

We've worked across a diverse range of industries and business sizes, partnering with leaders to develop HR strategies, deliver people initiatives and create high-performing workplaces.

We've seen the good, the messy, and the moments where things could've gone either way. We've sat in executive meetings, led restructures, supported leadership teams and built people and culture frameworks from the ground up.

And we know how hard it is to do great people work when everything around you is moving fast. AI is reshaping jobs, workforce expectations are evolving, budgets are tighter than ever, and businesses are being asked to do more with less.

But some things haven't changed. People still want meaningful work, strong leadership, positive workplace cultures and a sense of belonging.

That's why we created HMNKND HR (pronounced "humankind"), a modern HR consulting firm providing HR strategy and advisory, outsourced HR support, HR project delivery and workplace culture transformation services.

  • All sorts. We work with businesses across a wide range of sectors, industries, and sizes. From sole traders and growing startups to established mid-sized organisations. Some have internal HR teams, others don’t. What they have in common is a desire to do right by their people and a need for clear, strategic support that actually makes a difference.

  • Most of our work is charged at a fixed project fee. That means you’ll know exactly what’s included, what it costs, and when it’ll be delivered, no surprises. For ongoing or advisory work, we can also offer retainers or day rates. We’ll always agree on the right approach upfront.

  • Start by getting in touch. We’ll set up a quick, no-pressure call to understand what you’re navigating and whether we’re the right fit. If we are, we’ll come back with a clear proposal outlining scope, deliverables, timelines, and pricing, so you know exactly what to expect before we get started.

  • Yes, we work with clients all over Australia. While we're based in Victoria, most of our work is delivered remotely and it works seamlessly. For key workshops or strategy sessions, we’ll do these in person, and happy to travel. Location’s never been a barrier.

  • We don’t do recruitment or leadership development programs. We know there are brilliant specialists out there who live and breathe that work and we’re happy to refer you to them. Our strength lies in strategic HR projects like remuneration, policy, structure, capability, and culture.

  • Yes. Some clients engage us for one-off work. Others keep us on a monthly retainer or use us as a virtual Head of People. We’re flexible and we’ll design an arrangement that works for your business and us.
